My kids looove this book! It was a perfect gift before we moved there.

An amazing series for teaching kids about other places!

I love travel guides that focus on children! The way you have to travel when you have children, and the sites that are going to be interesting for them, are entirely different than when you travel with adults. Playgrounds, sightseeing breaks and regular meals and snacks become much more important. Not only that, but children aren't going to be impressed by merely looking at something -- a guide like this provides lively backstories that up the interest. This guide points out sites that adults would like to see, but also that would interest children, like beaches, out-of-the-ordinary museums, zoos, etc.The only downside is that some of the stories describe events, places and people from the past that no longer exist, so there's really no way for kids to connect with the information. And the guide is filled with a lot of cartoon drawings, which I suppose is the way to reach kids, but I'd rather see photos of the real thing. And a lot of the information is given in all-capital letters, which is very hard to read.The book is part of a series. Another travel series for kids that you might want to check out is Lonely Planet's "Not-for-Parents" city guides.

It's been awhile, but I spent a few days in Singapore after traveling through Malaysia. And I wish I had this book!City Trails - Singapore focuses on things to do and places to go. It doesn't feature shopping sites, or lodging. It's meant to initiate excitement in a place and help younger people plan their time in Singapore... or convince their parents about what the fam should do!One thing for sure...City Trails - Singapore got me interested in looking over the other books in this series!

I don't think these "kids"'s version is any lacking in content compared to adult guide books. I grew up in Singapore and although immigrated, still try to visit every year. I am very familiar with Singapore both as a formal local and as a "tourist". This book covers a wealth of information and is fun to read, and I really don't find content lacking or inaccurate. In fact, I like this so much that I might get the Rome edition instead of a regular heavy guide book.

The book is full of fun facts for kids about Singapore. It is informative, and will help kids connect with the place when they visit. But it would also be fun to read if they just want to learn more about Singapore. There is a lot of information about the culture and about local customs. Easy to read, all the information is presented in little chunks for short attention span.

I gave this to a group of 4th graders to read and it was a hit. Children this age are inquisitive and old enough to appreciate the both the points of similarity and difference between cities and cultures. The format, several pages devoted to a variety of aspects of history and preset day life in Singapore, allows the reader to choose which topic is of particular interest. Children can learn about history, food, entertainment, ghosts, geography and sports among other things in this clearly written and engaging book. Though not one of the popular graphic novels, the colorful and entertaining illustrations complement the text well and appeal to the target audience. While written for upper elementary students, adults will find the book interesting. Good addition to any home or classroom library.
