First of all, I have to give credit on the pros- this book starts at the beginning (what is an option and how does it work) and works it's way into multi leg trades. It was a great book for me as someone who understood the fundamentals of an option but wanted to learn more about how and why a more complex trade could be used. In every case, a clear example is given, and various scenarios are examined to see what has happened to the trade, exposing various profit and loss possibilities. The writing is very consistent as to each trade or part of trade, making it easy to compare one style to another.I have two main criticisms, the first is the setup of the examples- there is no need to start any example in a month other than january, unless a certain timeline and LEAPS options are at play (where only long term Jan options are available). I realize that giving an example of a stock at 38 in september makes it more realistic, but it just adds a layer of decoding when it says "you buy a november 45 call." Now I have to go back and decode that it's 2 months and $7 out of the money. Maybe this is intentional so the reader gets used to doing these calculations, but for the sake of trying to understand how a trade works, it would be way easier to either start everything in January, or add the decoding "You buy a call $7 out of the money with 2 months to expiration, in this case, the Nov 45 Call." When it comes to calendar based trades it was even more confusing because now you're calculating the time to the option as well as the difference between the two options you are trading. Again, perhaps intentional but for learning how a trade works, it adds so much complexity to the explanation that is not necessary. Maybe there could be a quiz or study chapter that gives these realistic price and dates (not on strike prices and not in Jan) to practice with.Second, the charts were extremely difficult to decode and left a lot to be desired. I understand that they are made in the "new" format, but they are contrary to old standard charts and contrary to how we intuitively read stock price graphs-i.e. that up on the y axis is a profit and down is a loss. I can get over that if this really is the new standard for options graphs, but I can't get over that the absurd lack of resolution in the grids and lack of reference lines for the current stock price, and the various strikes in the trade. Reference lines and notes would make it so much easier to understand how the various options direct the outcome, and what prices produce what profit or loss. While the written text explanes the max gain or loss prices, it would be nice for them to be shown on the charts as well and especially relative to the current price.I wish there were any advice on why you would choose one style trade over another, if you read carefully you can deduct this yourself as the book does clearly state all the pros and cons of each trade, but there is no summary that I remember that talks about needing to nail a sweet spot, reducing risk, reducing margin requirements etc. A summary chart of "I think the stock goes up/down/sideways", and the various plays and when they are best played would be really helpful. Perhaps this is avoided so as to remain a reference and not a how-to so they don't get sued, idk.

Written by a college professor who teaches Options Trading and manages clients' portfolios. Learn to trade options with controlled minimum risks. I wish I'd read this book years ago. I'm already making money to augment my retirement income. Highly recommend.

As an amateur investor looking to learn more about options, this book does a very good job of introducing the different kinds of option trades, when you should use those trades, and how you would make those trades. It is not so complicated as to leave the inexperienced reader in the dust. There are certain examples I have to read through a few times to understand completely, but this book has exponentially increased my knowledge of options trading and understanding how to use them as an opportunity to hedge risk or to leverage for increased profits. A very worthwhile read.

The author does a very good job explaining what options are and how they work for a beginner. By helping someone understand the fundamentals of options, a lot of fear can be dispelled. A recommend read for anyone getting started in options trading.

This is a very good book for beginning option traders and intermediate, as well.I t gives good definitions of just about anything you would encounter. It also contains tidbits of things you may have assumed but were mistaken.Everything covered...soup to nuts...in a well written, clear manner.

This book truly helped me understand how to apply the different approached to stock options. Even though I had already had a little knowledge about options, this book enabled me to understand further what I was taught. The written illustrations and diagrams were presented so that anyone who has not had any previous knowledge about stock options could understand how it works. Although the few chapters at the end of the book were for more advanced traders, and some of it was above my head, they did give me some valuable information to consider when trading. I highly recommend this book.

Best option text book so far for me about technical side of option trading. The use of risk graphs helped me to understand the mechanism of spreads. Now I use Thinkorswim from TDAmeritrade to fine tune strike prices of spreads after learning how risk graph works from this book. Good for beginners who want to understand how exactly spreads work. I had to read other books about how to choose stocks and which spread to use.
